Cord Moving Supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Blog

Most people know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month especially at Cord Moving and Storage because this is the time of year when pink ribbons and t-shirts come out in full force. Men and women of all ages sign up to participate in walks, fundraisers, and fairs to help raise money and awareness for this disease, which is the most common cancer in women all over the world.

Although wearing pink and participating in races are a few good ways to show your support for breast cancer, these aren’t the only options. In fact, most organizations working to help cure and support breast cancer operate all year long, providing everything from grassroots support to the women who need it most to funding research at top universities.

If you’d like to support these organizations, you can donate money, time, or social media support. Here is a list of the leading companies helping to support breast cancer patients and their families.

> Breast Cancer Research Foundation: As the name suggests BCRF is all about providing support at the medical research level. Although not the most well-known breast cancer support organization, it is considered the best in terms of donations going straight to where they’re needed most.

> Living Beyond Breast Cancer: An informational website and resource for women with breast cancer, this organization also provides programs and services to those who need it. Their work includes exercise groups, conferences, webinars, and political awareness.

> BreastCancer.Org: This organization provides one of the most up-to-date and reliable sources of information on breast cancer, including individual diagnoses, therapy options, tips on living with breast cancer, screening and testing, and more.

> Casting for Recovery: This organization provides no-cost healing retreats to women suffering from breast cancer. Although the focus appears to be on teaching women to go fly fishing, the real goal is to improve quality of life and recreation for those at any stage in the disease.

> Susan G. Komen for the Cure: This name is the most recognizable in breast cancer awareness, and they’ve done much to help put the spotlight on breast cancer. However, they’ve come under fire recently for their high program expenses (meaning a lot more money goes to supporting the organization that to actual breast cancer support).

> American Cancer Society: The American Cancer Society supports more than just breast cancer, but it’s still considered a leading provider of information, treatment options, and funding for cancer research. They do a good job of turning the focus every October to women.

You don’t have to donate a lot of time or money to make a difference. Contact one of these organizations to learn more about what you can do to participate in breast cancer awareness.
